Ingredients:
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 3 to 4 tablespoons buttermilk
- Sprinkles or colored sugar optional
Instructions:
Mix the flour, baking soda, and baking powder together in a medium-sized bowl using a whisk
Softened butter and sugar should be mixed together in a large bowl until the mixture is smooth
Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract and beat until everything is well mixed
Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ones, making sure to mix well after each addition
Add buttermilk one tablespoon at a time until the dough comes together if its too dry
Make two equal pieces of dough and flatten them into discs
Cover the discs of dough with plastic wrap and put them in the fridge for at least an hour
Warm the oven up to 375F 190C and put parchment paper on baking sheets
Spread out one disc of chilled dough on a floured surface until its about 1/4-inch thick
Cut out the shapes you want with cookie cutters and place them on the baking sheets that have been prepared
If youre using colored sugar or sprinkles, press them on the cookies gently
For 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden, bake the cookies
Take the cookies out of the oven and let them cool for a while on the baking sheets
Place the cookies on wire racks to cool all the way through
Do the same things with the rest of the dough: roll, cut, and bake
After the cookies have cooled, you can decorate them however you like
Enjoy your tasty sugar cookies that you made yourself
